Aria has the edgiest style of the liars and loves dark colors and layers. Here we’ll break down some of her most iconic looks and how to incorporate her style into your own.
Core style Elements
– Black accents: All of her outfits (or at least 90% of them) incorporate something black, whether that be the clothes themselves, black boots, or a black bag.
– Leather: Aria loves a leather jacket – you can see her re-wearing the same one in pictures 4 and 9. In winter (image 11) she switches it up for a fur-lined leather jacket, and in image 8 she’s in a leather skirt. She also loves a good black leather bag and boots.
– Romantic touches: While edgy, her outfits normally have a feminine romantic touch, such as ruffles, lace, or a flared skirt.
– Tights or skinny jeans: Almost every time she wears a dress, skirt, or shorts, she’s wearing tights underneath, and often patterned tights (images 2-3). When she wears pants, it’s always skinny jeans (seen in images 5-7 in black and gray washes) with boots.
– Bright colors or patterns: Aria wears a lot of patterns and bright or jewel-toned colors. Lucy Hale has high-contrast features which makes this work for her, but might not work for everyone else especially for those with more muted color-palettes.
Colors
Lucy Hale is often typed as a “deep autumn”, which makes sense with Aria’s wardrobe, as she’s often shown in earth tones and other deep colors. She also pulls off grays and blacks well and is occasionally shown wearing light green. Her earth-toned colors lend themselves well to her more free-spirited vibe in contrast with the other Liars, and the dark colors and grays show her alternative edge.
Sourcing Clothes
Out of all the Liars, Aria definitely seems like the thriftiest, and I’d recommend checking out local thrift stores to get Aria’s look. It always helps me to go to the thrift store with a game plan, so below are some things to look out for while you shop.
Aria Thrifting Strategies:
- Black shirts and dresses with accents like ruffles, lace, and buttons: Black clothes are always easy to find in the thrift store. To keep up with Aria’s style, look for clothes that can be layered easily or have feminine/romantic touches like lace, ruffles, and buttons.
- Jewel-toned shirts and dresses: Look for dresses and shirts with a flared or ruffled bottom in one of her classic colors like dark purple, red, gold, or gray.
- Patterned sweaters: Look for sweaters + cardigans with stripes, leopard, or other patterns
- A-line mini skirts: Aria typically wears skirts and dresses that accentuate her waist and flare out at the bottom, or if they’re loose she pairs them with a belt. When shopping for skirts, stick to the mini skirt section (and make sure to get some tights for fall/winter!) and look for dark-colored skirts that flare or are form-fitting in a material like dark denim (image 10).
- Skinny Jeans: Look for skinny jeans in black or gray, and pair them under a ruffly top and with boots.
- Tights: A pair of basic sheer tights is a classic, but for some added spice look for lace tights or other patterned tights.
- Boots: Aria almost always wears boots – some simple moto boots work great with her style, but you can also look for some heeled/platform boots to modernize and dress up her style.
- Leather Jackets: Leather jackets are a great staple for any wardrobe. Again look for a leather jacket with funky accents like buttons, zippers, or fur
- Big bags: A messenger bag or big slouchy purse is the perfect accessory
- Accessories: Look for chunky bracelets and necklaces or accessories that you can layer. She also loves a belt to accentuate her waist in looser outfits.
