Our Favorite Marc Jacobs Runway Shows

As big fans of platform boots, DIY-aesthetics, and dramatic silhouettes, we love Marc Jacobs’ style. This year his fall 2024 runway show showcased lots of light colors and doll-like imagery, and while we love his doll-like style, we prefer his collections a little darker.

Here’s a showcase of some of our all-time favorite looks and shows from Marc Jacobs.

1. Spring 2023

This might be my all-time favorite Marc Jacobs show. Commemorating Vivienne Westwood after her death, you can clearly see inspirations from Vivienne Westwood’s punk and DIY style in these looks. Every outfit is a hit, and something I could imagine a cool girl of New York wearing in winter. This show has great layers, utilitarian pockets, lots of dramatic coats, and cool platform boots. What more could you need?

2. Spring 2017

This show was a candy-colored crazy runway that’s almost too sweet. We especially love the details below.

3. Fall 2016

This show was fully of gothy layers and textures, and referenced Beetlejuice and other spooky influences. We love the makeup choices and all the luxe fabric selections.

4. Resort 2017

This show was sooo 80s, and while a bit campy, the pieces are definitely wearable and we love the fabrics and details.

5. Fall 2022

We love these more somber looks in contrast to his often loud shows and in a recently-post-covid society.

6. Spring 2022

This show displays deconstructed garments and evokes emotion in the viewer. We love the shapes and post-apocalyptic aesthetic.

7. Fall 2020

These looks evoke a more classic high-fashion feel, and we love the vintage aesthetic.

8. Spring 2024

This collection once again pulls in his exaggerated doll-like style, but I like the stiff/strong silhouettes and the exaggerated 60s hair and makeup.

9. Fall 2011

This collection was heavy on the lace and latex – we love the contrast between feminine elements and more severe silhouettes.

10. Fall 2009

Another very 80s inspired look, we love the bold and playful yet dark fashion choices here.

Honorable mentions:
Perry Ellis Spring 1993

Marc was working under Perry Ellis at the time – Fired for this collection but later revered, this was the show that kickstarted Marc’s career in the spotlight.

Fall 2023

I liked the style for this and how it diverted from his usual aesthetic, but it just didn’t have as much mental sticking power as the rest on this list.
